Start with 2.0

Harness 2.0 brings reusable workspaces and cross-session tools to the same native terminal. The signed, notarized 2.0 Mac app is published for Apple silicon Macs running macOS 15 or later. Existing settings and saved sessions remain compatible.

Also new in 2.0.1

The latest 2.0 patch adds 25 original Harness themes, bringing the catalog to 514. Find the originals first in the theme picker, including the near-black blue-teal Harness Deep Sea. Updating preserves your current selection.

Theme search now receives keyboard focus correctly, and theme choices expose named accessibility actions. The workspace features below were introduced in 2.0.0 and remain part of 2.0.1.

Keep a workspace, not a checklist

  • Saved Setups: save tabs, split ratios, directories, and shells. Open an existing setup session or launch a new copy. Startup commands are explicit, not copied from running processes.
  • Activity: see the exact pane that needs you across attached hosts. Mark events read or snooze reminders without pretending the program has stopped waiting.
  • Recently Closed: recover the layout of a closed pane, tab, or session as fresh shells. This does not resume a terminated process or agent conversation.

Find output and paths

Search All Sessions finds literal text in retained output across open sessions on attached hosts, with case sensitivity and paging. Insert Path (⌥⌘I) opens a cursor-anchored file picker with Folder and Git-aware Project search. Select paths and insert them shell-quoted without running a command.

Go to Directory (⌥⌘G) remains the explicit navigation action. The regular-expression option in pane Find (⌘F) is separate from literal cross-session search.

More complete native behavior

  • Native color emoji and longer combining sequences remain intact through terminal operations including copy and capture.
  • Native scrollbar dragging and track clicks follow macOS preferences.
  • Comfortable pane spacing is adjustable from 0 to 24 points; the default is 8.
  • New windows start at 100 columns by 30 rows, with remembered size and position enabled by default.
  • 23 coding CLI identities use compact, fixed-brand badges. Detection and hook support remain separate.
  • Terminal settings imports have a preview, conflict choices, skipped-key explanations, and undo that preserves later edits.
  • Signed app updates use Sparkle 2.9.6. New scrollback records include validated resize geometry; old logs retain their legacy replay behavior.

Upgrade with the right expectations

Keeping sessions through an app quit still depends on the effective quit setting, per-session pins, a running daemon, and a running host. Restarting a daemon or host is not process checkpointing. Reopening a saved setup and recovering a closed layout are also different from resuming old process memory.
