The native shortcuts and prefix controls worth keeping close.

Everyday Mac controls
| Action | Shortcut |
|---|---|
| New window / tab / session | ⌘N / ⌘T / ⇧⌘N |
| Close pane / close tab | ⌘W / ⌥⌘W |
| Split horizontally / vertically | ⌘D / ⇧⌘D |
| Neighboring pane | ⌥⌘Arrow |
| Previous / next pane | ⌘[ / ⌘] |
| Zoom pane / equalize splits | ⇧⌘Return / ⌃⌘= |
| Select tab 1–9 | ⌘1 … ⌘9 |
| Previous / next tab | ⇧⌘[ / ⇧⌘] |
| Reopen closed tab | ⇧⌘T |
| Find / next / previous | ⌘F / ⌘G / ⇧⌘G |
| Go to directory | ⌥⌘G |
⌘ is Command, ⌥ is Option, ⌃ is Control, and ⇧ is Shift. Closing a pane is an explicit close action, not merely hiding a window.
Full Terminal prefix controls
Full Terminal enables Ctrl-A by default. Press and release the prefix, then the next key. Press prefix followed by ? for the live cheatsheet. These are defaults; your keymap may override them.
| After the prefix | Action |
|---|---|
| % / " | Split side-by-side / stacked |
| c | New tab |
| n / p | Next / previous tab |
| z | Zoom pane |
| o | Cycle panes |
| q | Show pane numbers |
| [ | Enter copy mode |
| : | Open command prompt |
| d | Detach attached client |
| x | Close pane |
GUI prefix arrows select neighboring panes. The attach-window compositor uses hjkl for pane movement. Do not assume every native GUI binding is identical in a terminal attach client.
Inspect and change your bindings
harness-cli keymap --json
harness-cli list-keys
harness-cli bind-key -T prefix '|' split-window -hKeybinding overrides are merged over defaults and can be managed with bind-key/unbind-key or keybindings.json. Lua can also contribute bindings. Use keymap to inspect the effective source of each binding before troubleshooting a conflict.
File paths and workspace actions
| Action | Shortcut or menu |
|---|---|
| Insert Path | ⌥⌘I |
| Go to Directory | ⌥⌘G |
| Activity | Session → Activity… |
| Saved Setups | Session → Saved Setups… |
| Recently Closed | Session → Recently Closed… |
| Search retained output across sessions | Session → Search All Sessions… |
The command palette also exposes workspace actions. Insert Path uses Return to insert, Right or Tab to open a folder, Left to go up, and Escape to close. It does not send a Return to the shell.
